love the fantasy of a dog banana which Nigel Parkinson used for Banana Bunch in the Dandy a few years ago..

Also lovely Nutty logo and colours red yellow..

 Heres the first encounter with the Nerks..But here pink! I like Bananaman in this period where it didn't have to worry about the tv cartoon program and could be very zany and creative..

I like True Brit and the Silly Party! Shame it didn't last that long...

Brian Walker does a nice Pop, Dick and Harry. Also a funny story!

Not sure who drew this...I know Steve Bright did later on..

Free gifts means new readers so comic page characters are reintroduced.

Barrie's work is always good fun in this era..Cuddles and Dimples on holiday!

75 years of The Dandy Desperate Dawg

The Dandy 6th October 1973

I remember as a kid I thought this strip was a bit of a cheek using Desperate Dan's title name...But it won me over and some nice George Martin art slapstick to enjoy.

It's funny seeing Desperate Dawg eating bones! in the second version he was less dog like...
what is nice about this strip is all the different type of dog face types used...

Over the years the strips in TV Comic tended to have a distinctive look - especially the ones that were drawn by their own stable of artists which included Bill Mevin, Neville Main, Dick Millington and John Canning. However, there was at least one series that would have been right at home in the pages of Beano or Topper... - 'Super Nan' was a kind of cross between Beryl the Peril and Desperate Dan, but more importantly she was the creation of George Martin - an artist who's nearly always thought of as working exclusively for DC Thomson (in fact, off the top of my head I can't think of any other strips that he drew for other publishers!). If you going to show reprints in a comic this is a nice way to do it..celebrate that it is a bit different to the other pages..also its nice that you could ask for an old character to come back for a one off..
As you can see they weren't all reprints some old characters can be brought back to life by new artists..


The Dandy 18th Jan 1997 a new one by George Martin!
This was also done in The Dandy with a mixture of new work and reprints..

Maybe The new Dandy could do this..
