Barrie's work is always good fun in this era..Cuddles and Dimples on holiday!

At the comicsuk forum there is an unusual thing where this character owned by DC Thomson also appeared in a IPC's 1979 Valiant Annual! see it at the link..

5th Nov 1966 Beano
Bob has done some great title panels...see else where on the blog..I also love the way he frames each panel..looking in different horizons...nothing is flat with Bob..I love the first panel with the food closes to us as they walk away...the great thing about doing a blog on comics is relooking at an artist in more detail...you can take it all for granted..I also like Ted bear rapid movement showing two heads..



Bob had the difficult task in my mind of taking over Dudley D Watkins when he died on Ginger..

I like how Ginger's feet are under the tablecloth in the first panel and animate in the third panel...it gives it just that extra bit of life for the action of falling backwards..its also nice when the Dad talks to the reader...

Will definitly look at Bob's work more...

qute a gruesome strip bullying at its extreme...though it is nicely over the top..

This is Bob..from Beezer book 1969..some nice angles in this one..and colour work..

Bob McGrath's last ever The Three Bears..

Beano 21st Sept 1985 the last one by Bob..
This was not good news to me as a kid..Simply Smiffy didn't work for me that replaced it..and the strip didn't last long so other kids must of not liked it..I didn't want the comic to be just about Dennis the Menace and the Bash street kids..

Bob stopped drawing Ginger in The Beezer in the 80's..so he must of retired...
I like his work even more now..just look at how 3D the characters are...with weight..and great emotions..I would love to be able to draw in this solid way..my cartoons come out flat:) Every panel is also different and varied..

One thing about The Three Bears was the detail made it tricky to read when it was on the inside last page..the paper was too thin..so it was better inside the comic..

Well worth looking at Bob's work again..I recommend it..

After talking about Cor-medy Choice which Cor comic did in the 70's along comes The Beano idol in this weeks issue..where we the reader can choose our favourites between three..
Home Invation (David Sutherland) , Meebo and Zuky (Laura Howell)and Uh, Oh Si Co! Nigel Parkinson..all of them good..all should be in The Beano..

Uh, Oh Si Co! stood out just a little bit more for me and love the mum going crazy..it does remind me and others of Vic Volcano from the 90's Beano drawn by Robert Nixon...also in Nutty was Samuel Creeps a posh kid who got the better of bullies and also can be very strong at times..
Bob McGrath drew it the Three Bears artist..
So old ideas refreshed..

Late 50's and 1960's Beano fun logo mastheads

I like this one a lot by Leo..:)

Leo Baxendale has of course done some very good logos..mastheads..








A nice logo by Dudley D. Watkins. Has some echos to the new Lord Snooty the Third logo by Nigel P.


Jim Petrie did some great logos different every week as well..sometimes the logo blended into the background of the picture.




A lovely fat horse..


Davy Law did some nice logos changing every week...this is when the logo showed a bit of the story.


Ron Spencer has done some super Little Plum logos.




David Sutherland has done some wonderful Bash Street logos and still drawing a different one today. The king of logos!!


Always liked the spinning top logo...







The Three Bears had some very memorable logos..maybe its because it made you hungry...drawn with relish by Bob McGrath.

What is fun about logo mastheads is it gives the artist a chance to be surreal...wacky..fun..
Maybe Todays Beano can bring back some mastheads fun...Ball Boy...Minnie the Minx..for example look a bit samey and could do with a change.
Lord Snooty the Third is good...Johnny Bean and of course Fred's Bed..
The Bash Street kids has the best logos in The Beano.
