Ken Reid's Banger and Masher!! and Bear Alley book news..

I have this great reprint book Fun comic Album 1989. It introduced me to so many new characters to me...from the 60's Power comics. Like The Cloak, Queen of the sea, The Nervs, Georges Germs, Eagle eye Junior Spy, Bad Penny and Banger and Masher!!
The Fun comic album had long complete stories and really was great for a new reader like me at the time.

Not sure where Banger and Masher come from by Ken Reid...can anyone help?

UPDATE
Raven Post Banger and Masher were in Valiant circa 1970/71.

Bear Alley books is going to be doing the same soon...seeing long stories in print in book form. I'm helping on one of the hunour comic books he is doing..I've written the intro...I'll tell more when it is announced.

It will soon be on sale...start saving...see the updates on the blog list on the left..

Keith Reynolds is in the Weekly News!

Keith drew Ray Gunn in Whizzer and Chips 1984. He also later drew School Belle and Sweeny Toddler in Buster 1990/91.

He did work for DC Thomson comics. For example he drew Tom Dick and Sally...which Dave Jenner also drew.

Now he is drawing for the Weekly News. A fun paper with interesting stories and lots of cartoons. Bill Ritchie (Baby Crockett artist from Beezer comic) also does cartoons for them.

The Weekly News can be found in WHSmiths with a search.. ask staff member for help.

I like Keiths single panel jokes a lot...well worth cutting out and collecting.

Did Tom Paterson draw any Sweeny Toddlers in Shiver and Shake?

18th August 1973. Shiver and Shake.

26th January 1974. Shiver and Shake.

22nd September 1973. Shiver and Shake.

26th May 1974. Shiver and Shake.

Whoopee!! 30th October 1976. Heres a signed one.

It is hard to tell the difference between these top artists. Tom Paterson and Leo Baxendale.

If all of the above are Leo Baxendale then let me know...I'm willing to be wrong..

Maybe Tom ghosted a few...

Kashgar
As well as the 1990 Dandy Annual Tom Paterson's 'L'Il Imp' appeared in the Dandy comic Nos 2413 (20/2/88) - 2435 (23/7/88). thanks Kashgar for info..

As I've got most Dandys between 1988 and 1994 I thought I'd have a look for you and see what i could suss out about this Kylie Phizzog strip. This is by no means comprehensive, I don't have the time to look through all my comics, but from what I can see, she first appeared in Issue 2526 (Apr21,1990) in colour and she introduces herself, so I guess it's the first story. She appears in colour again in 2528 (may5,1990) and then the one you posted here. That appears to be it as the Laughing Planet starts (once again it's an introductory story) in issue 2538 (Jul14,1990) and I see no more sign of Kylie.

Hope that is of interest!

Regards,
Ross
thanks Ross

so not very long live strips..

Tom Paterson's Freddy the fearless fly The Dandy June 13th 1998.

Its always nice discovering a new Tom Paterson comic character...
The original Freddy was drawn by Allan Morley in The Dandy 1937-1950's.

Allan Morley also drew Hungry Horace. Wuzzy Wiz is the Brassneck artist Bill Holroyd. This is from The Dandy 7th June 1952.

Beano Max number 4 once coloured up a classic Calamity James..which looks really good. I Hope Beano Max will do more of these gems.

I like Hunt's work..you can tell he liked old American comic strips like Krazy Kat and Popeye by Segar for example. Its a real treat seeing his two pager of Fred's Bed in The Beano today...
well worth collecting comics with his work in it.
Buy The Beano now and see what you are missing..

'Von Hoffmans Invasion' was a highlight for me when I used to buy 'Jet' so I was pleased when it was one of the strips that made it into 'Buster & Jet' when they merged.
